THE BOAT

Saltair is a Hallberg-Rassy 57 launched in 2023, Hull #14 (the 13th built)

Finding the right boat for cruising took a long time and forced us to figure out exactly how we wanted to use her. We knew we loved spending our vacations cruising but always found ourselves rushing from anchorage to anchorage to make the most of our limited time. During the summers of 2020 and 2021 we spent the entire summer cruising on the east coast of the US and we decided that taking a couple years off our 'land life' while our son was still in lower or middle school would be optimal.  We eventually settled on joining the World Cruising Club's rallies to bring our plan to fruition.

Our search for a reliable bluewater cruiser led us to select a Hallberg-Rassy 57. The boat is extremely well built, has a center cockpit for safety and stability, twin wheels for easy of movement in the cockpit, a sail plan manageable for a couple, lots of outdoor storage with a dedicated sail locker and large aft lazarette and a great indoor layout. The salon is bright, the galley well equipped and the cockpit is well sheltered while underway. With 3 cabins and 2 heads, we can comfortably accommodate guests. We were also attracted to the performance of the boat, she sails quite well, which was important to us as we have spent most of our sailing time racing on the San Francisco Bay.

Why the name Saltair?
The hardest decision was the name! After months of family 'boat naming' meetings we had quite the list and eventually Saltair got everyone's votes.
