Penobscot Bay, Maine

We have spent the last week exploring Penobscot Bay and loving its little nooks and crannies. We had a few destinations in mind from cruising guides and other sailor's reviews but we are letting our hearts (and weather) dictate our moves. Highlights were Pulpit Harbor and Holbrook Island and their vicinities.

Sharing these beautiful places with you via pictures....

Sunset Dinner on Saltair @ Pulpit Harbor

Sunset - Pulpit Harbor

We went on a sunset dinghy ride.... pretty magical

Our other super special anchorage was behind Holbrok Island. It was quite a special place and we stayed a coulpe nights.

First day we went hiking on some of the trails from the Holbrook Island Sanctuary. It was beautiful but VERY buggy and we wished we had chosen long pants!

We did NOT see any bears...just bugs, stinging ones...

Very cute little brown squirrel (For Eleonore)

The color of the moss is so spectacular!

Bird rock - Cormorans love hanging out on this point.

The view from our anchorage near Holbrook Island.

Another beautiful sunset!

We spent some time exploring the nearby town of Castine and were delighted to discover a charming historical town rich in art and culture.  We had a nice dinner at the Pentagoet Inn on our first night, great lobster rolls on the town dock the next day and great ice cream after a nice walk to the lighthouse. Along the way we stopped by the Wilson museum where we learned a lot about the region's history and geology! It was really worth the stop!

This was a lovely Free Little Art Gallery!

Signs highlighting the region's history were placed throughout the town!

Beautiful gardens and lawns!
